about
Written towards the end of the third COVID-19 lockdown, after the misplaced promise and disastrous handling of the first two post-lockdown periods, The Big Reveal asks the big question in a blunt, impassioned manner: Just what happens now? At once stark, intense, and despondent, The Big Reveal outlines that feeling of complete powerlessness we all felt at the time. Although based on the experience of lockdown, the broader themes and emotive connections of The Big Reveal are relatable to any unexpected personal, cultural or political shocks.
The first release of a two-year new song cycle, The Big Reveal is a clear evolution of the Fendahlene sound. From the very beginning, a driving bass line relentlessly counterpoints with an organ, setting up the passionate, in-your-face guitars and lead vocals that empower the somewhat dystopic undertone of the narrative. A crunching guitar solo and searing harmonies add extra energy and urgency. And yet, the entire track remains grounded by earthy, almost laid-back drumming, which adds swagger to counter the intensity of the song.
lyrics
We've been all shut down for so long now
Nothing seems to be moving
What'll happen next?
Trying to second guess feels like all that I'm doing
Hey, am I the only one
Who feels confused and uncertain?
I've got nothing but my soul to sell
Is it worth anything, can you help me out?
Everybody's waiting for the big reveal
Everybody's hoping that it's the real deal
We knows that this is the last chance saloon
Will we make it? Can we take it?
We won’t hide
We've been locked away with no escape
Nothing on the horizon
Things were looking up
We thought we were done, now everything has been tightened
Hey, we're not the only ones
With conflicting emotions
We've got nothing but our souls to sell
Are they worth anything, will you help us out?
Everybody's waiting for the big reveal
Everybody knows exactly how we feel
We all know that this is a zero sum game
We all say it, but we still play it
We can't escape
Everybody's living in the here and now
The past has gone forever, the future can't be found
Everybody's waiting for the big reveal
But we've blown it, we all know it
Now we can't hide
Everybody's waiting for the big reveal
Everybody knows exactly how we feel
We all know that this is a zero sum game
We all say it, but we still play it
We can't escape
